What’s the best toilet on the market?
Someone recently asked us on our Facebook page, “What’s the best toilet on the market?” Great question.
On average, toilets use about 30 percent of your water bill, so it’s important to have an efficient unit. Over the span of an average toilet’s life, you will flush it 140,000 times. Seriously! Don’t take our word for it, just ask Consumer Reports.
It’s really hard for us to say that a single toilet is the absolute best because personal preference plays a factor in selection. We’ll do our best to answer the question, though.
If you’re looking for a high end, very reliable toilet, Kohler, American Standard and Toto all get great reviews. Most of these newer styles are the comfort height toilets, which we have blogged about before. Comfort heights are generally about two inches taller than a regular toilet. They are also much more efficient, as most of these toilets use a mere 1.28 gallon per flush, and many have dual flush options. If your current toilet is over 20 years old, there is a good chance this would cut your toilet’s water use in half. That means saving up to 16,500 gallons of water per year. That’s $100 in savings, every single year.
If you still want a specific answer for what is the best toilet, we can give you a few names. We sell a lot of Kohler Class 6 models, which is a well rated comfort height toilet. We would also recommend checking out the Kohler Cimarron (also a Class 6) and the American Standard Cadet 3. These are bulk flush, high performance comfort height toilets with elongated bowls. You can’t go wrong with any of these options.
