Louisville’s MSD Plumbing Modification Program

Dauenhauer Plumbing Heating & Air can perform a number of modifications on your home to help improve your plumbing system. One such modification is a rainwater backflow preventer.

Louisville’s water department, the Metropolitan Sewer District, or MSD, offers two voluntary programs under their Plumbing Modification Program. The goal of the MSD is to reduce basement backups and remove improper connections to the Louisville sewer system.

This program has helped thousands of residential property owners prevent basement flooding, decrease sewer system overflows to our streams and rivers, and improve water quality within Jefferson County.

MSD Offers These Voluntary Programs At No Charge to You

MSD invites property owners to participate in these voluntary plumbing programs to protect your home and the community’s streams from overflows of untreated sewage.

Basement Backflow Prevention Program

Dauenhauer Plumbing Heating & Air will help MSD customers who have either experienced a sewer-related backup in their basement or live in an area that has a history of wet weather basement backups.

Sump Pump/Downspout Disconnection Program

Dauenhauer Plumbing Heating & Air will help MSD customers remove improper sump pump connections from the sewer system. Many sump pumps from homes connect directly to the sewer system. However, as few as eight sump pumps can overwhelm the typical eight inch neighborhood sanitary sewer pipe during heavy rains.

MSD will pay for a licensed plumber to disconnect your sump pump from the sewer system and redirect that water in a safe manner.

If you decide to participate in the Plumbing Modifications Program, you must obtain at least two bids from Louisville plumbers on their Approved Plumbers List. Dauenhauer Plumbing Heating & Air is proud to be included in the list of approved plumbers for the Plumbing Modifications Program.
