4 reasons your faucet is leaking
There’s nothing quite like the sound of a dripping faucet. It can keep you from sleeping. It can become the loudest sound in the house.
It’s been known to drive families crazy. But not to worry – your sanity is safe with Dauenhauer. Here are a few common reasons your faucet refuses to be quiet.
It’s the O-ring
A stem screw is used to hold the handle of a faucet in place. This stem screw has a small disc attached to it, known as the O-ring. If your faucet is dripping, the O-ring is a likely culprit as they typically become loose or wear out with regular use. The solution is easy-peasy – simply replace the O-ring.
Corroded Valve Seat
A valve seat serves as a connection between the faucet and the spout in the compression mechanism. Accumulation of water sediments can cause the valve seat to corrode, causing leakage around the spout area. Make sure that you clean the valve seat regularly. Worn Out Washer
During each use, the washer is forced against the valve seat, and this constant friction causes it to wear out. As a result, dripping is noticed around the spout. Just like the O-ring, all you need to do is replace the warn out washer.
Loose Parts
The packing nuts and adjusting ring in the steam screw can become loose with time and usage, causing the handle of the faucet to leak. If you notice the water dripping from near the handle, you need to either tighten or completely replace the packing nut.
